NMC’s 54-month course and 12-month internship rule, explained

Why the "same university" internship clause matters when you compare foreign medical programmes.

TIT News Desk 20 Jan 2026 2 min read

NMC's FMGL Regulations, 2021 require foreign medical graduates to complete at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution.

Why it matters

Some programmes historically allowed students to return to India for their internship. Under the current rules, that route does not meet FMGL requirements for students who joined after the regulations came into force.

What to check

  • Is the internship built into the programme, at the same university?
  • Is the full duration at least 54 months plus 12 months of internship?
  • Is everything taught in English?

All Uzbekistan universities on our site run six-year programmes that include the internship.
